Presentation of the Investment Projects in Sisak-Moslavina County

On June 9th, our Commercial office team attended a presentation of the investment projects in Sisak-Moslavina County.
Organized by the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the meeting was held in Sisak, in the premises of Sisak County Chamber. Many representatives of foreign Embassies participated in this meeting.
Mr. Boris Mesarić, President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy - County Chamber Sisak, held a short speech, as well as Mr.Ivo Žinić, Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect.
Moreover, short presentations were held by investors doing business in Sisak-Moslavina County, where they shared their experiences.
Among them was Mr. Domagoj Mosler, director of the Health Resort Topusko.
After the meeting, participants were taken to Lonjsko Polje, where they experienced the true rural tourism of Sisak-Moslavina County.

5th Annual Assembly of the Croatian Chamber of Agriculture

On June 3rd, the team of Brussels Invest&Export Croatia attended the 5th annual Assembly of the Croatian Chamber of Agriculture.
The Assembly was held in the cinema hall of the Ministry of Economy. The Ceremonial Assembly was attended by a multitude of distinguished guests, i.a. the Croatian Agriculture Minister, Mr Davor Romić,who gave a  short and meaningful speech.
The Osijek-Baranja County Prefect also attended the Assembly and gave a short speech.
Furthermore, our colleagues from the Office for Foreign Trade of the Embassy of Austria presented the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture's methodology, works, experiences and problems.

Field Trip to the Zagreb County

On June 2nd 2016, the team of the Belgian Economic and Commercial office in Croatia participated in a study visit to the Zagreb County organized by the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
The visit included the business zone as well as the Eco park Krašograd.
Our first stop was Rimac Automobili - a Croatian car manufacturer that develops and produces high-performance electric cars, drivetrains and battery systems, located in the City of Sveta Nedjelja.
After that, we visited König Metall - a tool production specialized in manufacturing sheet metal tools and die casting moulds, located in the Municipality of Pisarovina. The company performs machining, 3D measuring and heat treatment in vacuum, as well as production of jigs and fixtures and tailor-made products.
At the end, we visited Krašograd, owned by the biggest Croatian producer of confectionery company, Kraš d.d.
The eco-park is in Bratina, within the Pisarovina municipality, where they organise production and business in an eco-friendly and sustainable way.

For the 9th time since 2006, a Belgian Trade Mission visited Croatia on March 15th, 2016

Zagreb Book Festival

We were welcomed by the project leader of the festival, Miss Petra Ljevak, and made a guided tour of all the sections (novels, non-fiction, children books…).


After the tour, we gathered at the bar of the museum and started talking about the current festival. Miss Ljevak explained us how the partnership with Sweden started and what the Swedish Embassy did to help the organization.

Not only the Zagreb Book Festival got financial support of Sweden, but the Embassy also gave organizational and logistic assistance, arranged the stay of Swedish authors in Zagreb, gave information about Swedish literature etc.

Then the possibility of Belgium being the guest country during one of the next editions of the festival (2017?) was discussed. Miss Ljevak showed interest in the Belgian literature and saw, e.g., opportunities for the Belgian comics.

We explained her that the French-and Flemish-speaking Communities would be promoted, instead of Belgium as a country.Further contact (by mid-June) was agreed by both sides.

A lecture at the Department of Professional Studies of the University of Split

On May 5th at the Department of Professional Studies of the University of Split, the Economic and Commercial Attaché gave a lecture on Belgium, its economy and its commercial relations with Croatia. This was the first contact with a new type of network, namely the Academic circles.
At a meeting before the presentation, Mr. Garcia had the opportunity to develop the possibilities of cooperation, e.g. receiving interns at his office, with Mrs. Slađana Brajević, Head of the Business Cooperation Department, and several colleagues.

Visiting Istria


Under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on April 28th and 29th 2015, numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps in charge of Economic Relations visited the Istrian County to examine possible forms of cooperation.

During their stay, they visited some interesting companies such as Rockwool (insulation materials), Tehnomont (shipbuilding), Zigante (the largest European producer of truffles) and Rovinj Tobacco Factory (TDR), a part of the Croatian Adris Group.

In Pula, we were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, Ms. Elena Puh Belci, Head of the Administrative Department of the Istrian Development Agency, Mr. Alen Damijanić, and later by the Mayor of Pula, Mr. Boris Miletic as well as by the County Prefect Mr. Valter Flego.

In the informal conversations with representatives of the City, County, Istrian Development Agency and lstrian major companies, the main topics mainly were both about the existing cooperation and the ways to develop it in the future. From our side, this visit was viewed as the follow-up to our last year's presentation of Belgium as a business destination, which we organized in June of 2014 in Pula, in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.

Smurfs in a Christmas Fairy Tale

The Economic and Commercial Attaché of the Belgian Embassy of Belgium in Croatia, Mr. Antonio Garcia, and his associates visited the Salaj family farm in Grabovnica on April 10th, 2015.

The reason for visiting the Salaj farm is linked to their latest project - the so-called Smurf village, as the Smurfs are one of the best export products of Belgium.

The owner told us that this year his estate would be decorated and illuminated with more than 1,500,000 lights. For many years, this has already been as such a real tourist attraction in Croatia and beyond.

Mr. Garcia and Mr. Zlatko Salaj, the farm's owner and founder of the Smurf village concept, agreed upon a way of cooperation regarding the promotion of the Smurfs and help in further negotiations between Mr. Salaj and the Smurf licensee in Belgium, the company I.M.P.S. (

Visit to Metro Cash&Carry Zagreb
From March 24th to 26th 2015, a delegation of Belgian fruit and vegetable producers visited Croatia with the coordination of the Brussels Invest&Export Office in Croatia ( and the Flemish Agrofood Marketing Agency VLAM (
The representatives of the Belgian companies visited Zagreb Holding Ltd - Subsidiary Zagreb Markets-Superstores and refrigerators services Zagreb, where Ms. Anita Pevec and Ms. Jadranka Delonga presented the activities of the wholesale market and refrigerators.
They also visited a number of supermarket chains to become familiar with the offer of fruits and vegetables in the retail segment. On the 24th of March 2015, 60 individual meetings were held with representatives of Croatian companies active in the industry of fruit and vegetables. Among some of them, to their mutual satisfaction, several agreements of business cooperation were already signed or considered to be concluded in the near future.

The International Tourism Fair Place2go

The International Tourism Fair Place2go ( took place in Zagreb from March 13th - 15th 2015. The Croatian office of Brussels Invest&Export ( presented the City of Brussels, in close cooperation with VisitBrussels (, a major stakeholder of the promotion of the Belgian Capital City.
Brussels is usually thought of as the capital of the European Union, as well as one of the most important economic and political capitals in Europe. However, at the Fair, Brussels was presented rather as a European tourist and cultural centre.
The citizens of Zagreb were particularly interested in the flower carpet displayed every two years in August at the main square in Brussels. The City of Brussels is full of many other attractions such as the Atomium, Manneken Pis, monuments, palaces, museums and parks, but what is most known are its chocolate, beer and comic books, which were also presented at the Fair.
During the Fair, several meetings were held with Croatian travel/tourist agencies, which decided to include Brussels in their City Break promotional packs this year. As there were lots of positive reactions and feedback, our office will continue to promote Brussels as a tourist and cultural centre of Europe.

Invitation to Brussels

From January 19th to January 21st, Mr. Antonio Garcia, Economic and Commercial Attaché, accompanied and guided through Brussels two Croatian top tour-operators (Atlas d.d. and and the editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine Putovanja za Dvoje.
In spite of the typical Brussels rainy/cloudy weather, the Croatian visitors had the opportunity to discover several monuments, musea and gastronomic spots of the capital of Europe, besides the very much expected visit to the European Parliament.
This trip was a preparation to our participation to the International Tourism Fair Place2Go (, which was to take place in Zagreb from March 13th to 15th.

Visit to PIK Vrbovec - one of the biggest meat producers in Croatia

Mr Antonio Garcia and the team of the Belgian Economic and Commercial office in Croatia paid a technical and business visit to the meat production facilities of PIK Vrbovec.
PIK Vrbovec is one of the biggest meat producers in the country, always investing into new production facilities and development of new products in order to achieve higher quality.
During the visit, cooperation between Belgian companies and PIK Vrbovec was discussed, which can be beneficial for both sides.

Visit to the chocolate paradise

The Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of Belgium, Mr Antonio Garcia, visited the chocolate producer "Nautilus" based in Zaprešić, near Zagreb.
Nautilus is one of the many praline producers using Belgian chocolate as a base for its products.
All pralines are handmade. Ganache is made with original and unusual Croatian ingredients like pumpkin seed and oil, salt flower, oak honey or sour orange, which give a special flavour to pralines.

Visit to the Croatian Food Agency

During his three-day official visit to Osijek and the Osijek-Baranja County, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of Belgium to Croatia, Mr Antonio Garcia, visited the Croatian Food Agency (CFA/HAH).

The Agency presented its work and past activities at the international level, with a particular emphasis on its cooperation with the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA).

"My visit has a twofold character: I want first to become familiar with the Croatian Food Agency, as it is the only national agency in the city of Osijek, and then to explore the possibilities of cooperation in the future", noted Mr Garcia during his visit.

Belgium's IPS Consulting company has opened its first office in Croatia

The office is located in Sisak, 50 kilometres southeast of Zagreb, and will provide small and medium enterprises and farmers with consulting services and help them draw up various studies and develop projects using environmentally sustainable technologies.
The office was opened with the support of the Belgian Embassy.
Croatia is on a new development path, so we believe that the experience, innovations and technologies developed in Belgium will be valuable to Croatian entrepreneurs too. In that way a new concept of development will be created along with the application of future European projects, Ambassador Nancy Rossignol said at the opening ceremony in Sisak on Monday.

IPS Consulting director Filip Raymaekers said that the company specialised in projects in the agricultural and food sector and planned to establish ties with Croatian research institutions, food processing companies and agricultural producers, giving priority to the application of renewable energy sources in projects.

Visit to the Port of Vukovar

The Port of Vukovar is situated on the right shore of the Danube river,  is 850m long and 45m wide. During the Serbian occupation (until 1997), the entire equipment of port and cranes were stolen, while the buildings and infrastructure were neglected or destroyed.
After the peaceful reintegration (1997 and 1998), a donation of the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium allow the Port to buy two used 5/6 t portal cranes (1977 and 1987).
